Book #36 - Catcher in the Rye
Catcher in the Rye
J.D. Salinger
Is this seriously a book that jr. high and high school students read??? This is the first time I've ever read Catcher in the Rye, and to be honest, I'm kind of appalled that this is considered must read material for adolescents. It's full of cursing, talk of sex, underage drinking, and even a prostitute is thrown in there. But maybe I would have "got it" more when I was an adolescent - I don't know! There were so many times I just wanted to shake the main character - Holden Caulfield and tell him to stop being so stupid. I didn't even really understand the meaning behind the whole book, except for maybe that kids just have no idea where they are in life when they are high school aged. But I do know that I was glad when I was finished with it!

I read this a long time ago. I remember wondering what all the fuss was about. It really didn't seem all that special to me.
