Josh's Birthday

Last Tuesday, Josh celebrated his 31st birthday. Let me just preface this by saying that Josh has never liked his birthday. I don't know what it is, but he is very adamant about not wanting to celebrate it. I always try to do something special, hoping that he will be happy I tried to make his day special, but really - to him, his birthday is just another day of the week.

I had already mentioned on here, but our tv went out a few weeks ago, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a new one. I figured that at least he couldn't get mad at me for getting him a present that way!! So since he didn't want to do anything special, I decided to send him on a little treasure hunt to find his gifts. I was so excited to give him his tv, that the minute he walked into the door from work, I wanted him to start his hunt! I told him that Abbi had a gift for him, and I had a little gift, but that was all.

So when he walked in the door, he got this first card: (I also have to admit that I got a lot of these rhymes online. After reading a bajillion rhyming kids books to Abbi, those were the only rhymes I could think of. Thank goodness for Google!!)

Behind the tv (notice how small this tv is!! It's the tv that is normally in our bedroom and is probably 8 or 9 years old!) was his first gift - from Max and Abbi. It was a new Xbox game.

This second gift was mostly a joke. Josh loves cereal. He eats it at least once a day. So when I was asking him what he wanted for his birthday, he kept saying nothing. Finally he said that I could get him a fun, new cereal bowl. So I found him a cheesy kids bowl at Target - but he has really been using it!!

Out to the mailbox - no gift here - but this is where the next clue was.

This is where I had the tv, under a blanket. He was totally surprised - not expecting it at all!!

Want to know the best part?? He was so happy, and he said that I had actually succeeded in making his birthday special. How can you not be happy with a new, big tv?? But it really did bring a smile to my face, knowing that this birthday wasn't just another day to him this year.

Later that night, his parents came over, not only with a cake (Better Than Sex Cake - YUM!) but also a strawberry pie made with strawberries from their garden. It was seriously delicious. I ate way too much of that pie!

Abbi & Max got to play with Grandma and Grandpa, so it was a happy day all around for our family!

That is so adorable and creative and thoughtful! I'm so glad he had a happy birthday. And the TV looks truly awesome, as do the desserts!
