Another Baby Question...

and then maybe my next post will be something not baby related!!

I seriously don't know why I'm so paranoid. I thought that after I heard the baby's heartbeat, I'd be able to breathe a sigh of relief. But I've been losing weight this week, and now that has me paranoid! I had myself all prepared to start gaining a pound a week (that's a mental hurdle to get over!), but then as I've been on the scale this week (yeah, I have a problem with weighing myself too much!) I've weighed less than my "official" weight I take each Sunday, even when it's been at the end of the day, after I've eaten.

So now my next "big" thing I'm looking forward to is being able to feel this little tyke. Maybe if I feel him/her kicking in there, I won't be quite so paranoid! Everything I read says that a first-time mother will usually feel the baby sometime between 16 and 20 weeks. Granted, I'm only 13 1/2 weeks, so I still have a few weeks to go, but I'm taking a survey:

When did you first feel your baby move? And what did it feel like?

I read some message boards where some people claim to be able to feel their babies at 8 or 10 weeks, but I don't know what to believe. And I know it's easier to spot it once you know what it feels like.

I'm eager for this milestone and just want to see how it happened for everyone else!

With my first it was within that "normal" time frame. But with my second...I was one of those crazies who felt it way earlier. Like around 8 weeks. Nobody believed me, but I know what I know!! (I was NOT in a good place, life-wise, when I was first pregnant with my second...so I say God let me feel those little flutters early because He knew how much I needed to feel connected to my baby).

But you'll feel the baby soon enough!! It's awesome. I used to just sit there and watch my belly move and cry, it was so awesome.

I wouldn't be too worried about the weight thing, I have lost almost 4-5 pounds of my original starting weight...my midwife told me that happens a lot...and now that you are in your 2nd trimester, or just starting it, you should be gaining weight. A lot of women don't gain a pound in the first trimester...in fact a lot loose weight from being sick...I think thats partially my problem. Good Luck!

okay.. I am way too much of an over researcher of EVERYTHING! Apparently, your first baby takes longer to "feel" it gets earlier with every baby because you know what you're looking for. Also, there are lots of things that can effect it. you could have your placenta in the front, and that could block those little kicks. As for me.. I "think" i felt it around.. the 15th of this month. but i just think.. at first it hurt a lot. like it was trying to grab my spleen. BUT I have placenta previa (which means my placenta is sitting at the bottom of my uterus, not on the side of my uterus like it should be.) So I think that's why it might have hurt. And honestly.. what it feel like now.. it feels like someone flicking me on the inside.. and you know when your stomach bubbles when it doesnt feel good. it feels like that.. but lower than a stomach bubble.. its realllly easy to confuse with gas! Dont worry.. you'll feel it soon enough. I was glad once I did though.. it was a little reasurance that everything is okay.. but.. at this stage. I dont feel it very much. (once or twice a day) so i usually panick all day until the first time i feel it!!

Wow.. that was long.. sorry!!! :)

Okay, Deb, I finally came over here because I thought I saw that you were expecting and YOU ARE! w00t!!!!!! I am so excited for you (and embarrassed because I just found out). As far as your question goes, after having three kids (all ancient now) I felt each one between 15 and 17 weeks. I'll never forget the sensation. And you're losing weight? Jeez. I wish. My sister was always like that. Each time she gave birth, she weighed less than when she got pregnant. It's just how she is. I, on the other hand, am inclined to walrusness. YAY! I'm so excited for you! Okay, going back to foodland now...

I believe I first felt Cash move in March, which would have made me about 16-18 weeks. I think. I should have written it down! Maybe I did and I've forgotten where! Get prepared to lose your memory...

As for the weight thing - I've already lost 37 pounds in 3.5 weeks - it was all water weight from swelling. I lost LOTS during the pregnancy because I was so sick AND I had the flu. (But I was no skinny minnie to begin with!) So don't worry about it - just don't go overboard and you'll be fine!

I remember feeling my first around 18 weeks and having such a SIGH of relief when it occured several times (enough for me to "know" it was a baby and not just prego gas :)teehee) I felt my third around 15-16 weeks but purely due to the fact I knew what to look for. I love milestones in pregnancy..it helps to get through each week that may feel like its dragging! Ahhhh, the benefits of being a woman :)

Congratulations on the pregnancy! I came over from your food blog and just had to comment here. I don't know if you're still worrying or not, since this post was written a while ago, but I wanted to let you know I felt my son move the middle of my 17th week. So I wouldn't worry if you haven't felt the little one yet. It's the most amazing feeling, though -- you'll LOVE it.

And don't worry about losing weight -- you'll start gaining soon, don't worry!

It took forever for me, I think maybe 23/24 weeks...so don't get discouraged.. I was paranoid too, I thought I felt it a hundred times until he really did move and I knew for sure. haha
