2011 Garden

We started off this year saying we weren't going to do a garden unless we built some planter boxes for square foot gardening. Then we said we weren't going to have a garden at all this year. And then Josh's parents brought us some extra plants they had - so we have ended up with a garden anyway! I just need to be more diligent this year in taking care of it. We must have super soil, because our plants always grow out of control. But bring on the fresh tomatoes and zucchini!

We got a late start, but I'm glad because so many people lost plants after that snow storm in late May. I'm crossing my fingers that all of our plants do well this year!

What we've planted:

2 bell pepper plants
4 tomato plants - sweet 100s, romas, and 2 regular tomatoes (the label just says "tomato")
1 crenshaw cantaloupe
1 zucchini elite
1 diva cucumber
1 acorn squash
1 honeydew melon
lots of strawberry plants from last year

I also need to pick up a basil plant, because that is the most used plant in my garden each year!

I can't possibly take a care of a garden this year, so I'm glad I signed up for a CSA. But next year if I'm working from home and less I'm planning to do raised beds in our back field! Can't wait. I think my dad is excited to help.

And cantaloupe! One of my fave summer treats! With salt. Yum.

So jealous! It looks great. And I thought I was the only one who put salt and cantaloupe! I'm glad to know I'm not alone. :)

Um, I mean, salt ON cantaloupe. I blame sleep deprivation.
